Day 31: RE-CREATE YOUR FAVORITE CHALLENGE

Here we have it... the 31st and final day of the Challenge!! For the last day I recreated a manicure from Stephanie - Day 14: Flowers. I originally wanted to recreate her awesome tribal nails, but I didn't have enough time for such an intricate design. I'll try to recreate those another time. Besides her tribal nails, I adored her flower nails.. such a cute and unique idea for stamping... so I picked out some pastel colors and here you go...

I used Orly Gumdrop as the base.
Then Stamped with SE-20, Finger Paints black expressionism, paper mache, and Sally Hansen Insta-Dri snappy sorbet.

I would also like to shout a big THANK YOU out to the girl's that joined this challenge with me...

Day 30: Inspired by A TUTORIAL

Can you believe it?? It's the second last day of the challenge. This month has gone by so fast! I'll be sure to do a summary post of the challenge in a few days.. but for today I have nails inspired by a tutorial which are also suitable for Pink Wednesday!! (I haven't participated in pink wednesday in ages!)

Don't forget to check out the other girls that are doing this challenge with me..
What tutorials inspired their nail art today??

Stephanie at A Little Polish

I ended up doing two manicures for this one, the first manicure I tried was an epic fail (you can see photos at the bottom of the post). But then my second attempt at a different tutorial was a success. I have a bookmarked folder in my "favourites" with links to various tutorials I want to try, so I had lots of backups.

Now, without rambling on, I give you my nails inspired by this you-tube tutorial by NailsKathy.

I've seen these slim-lines manicures around a lot lately, and I love them!
I used Finger Paints Black Expressionism as my base and did the lines with KleanColor neon pink.

The next two photos help to show how neon the pink polish is (my skin just looks a little discolored)

My original plan was to do a dry water marble using this tutorial by DIY Nail Art Design. I wanted it to look like this gorgeous dry marble design by Nailsymo. It did NOT work out as planned... my sister said it looked cute when she saw it at a distance, but when I showed her up close she was like... "oh.. you should take photos from further back" lol.

I will have to attempt this another time.. if anyone has any advice on how to improve I'd love to hear it!

Day 29: Inspired by THE SUPERNATURAL

Yay!! Glow in the Dark nails! I ordered China Glaze Ghoulish Glow after I saw this post by Sarah at Chalkboard Nails... but had terrible luck photographing my nails the first time I tried it. Regardless, I decided to give it a second shot and apparently the "candlelight" setting on my camera is perfect :)

So I give you my glow in the dark supernatural nails :)

I used Sally Hansen Insta-Dri Whirlwind White as a base. Then I did two coats of Ghoulish Glow.
(The white polish helped the polish glow)
Then I stamped with Finger Paints Black Expressionism, BM-211, 213, & 223.

There's only a couple days left to the challenge friends!!
Check out what Supernatural Nails the other girls came up with...

Day 28: Inspired by A FLAG

I'm willing to bet that little to no people will recognize this flag. This is the provincial flag for my little corner of the world.. Labrador, Canada. This was our flag before we joined the province of Newfoundland and became Newfoundland & Labrador.

The top white bar represents the snow which colours the culture and lifestyle of Labradorians like no other element. The bottom blue bar represents the waters of Labrador which serve as the highway and sustainer of the people of Labrador. The centre green bar represents the nurturing land. It is thinner than the other two, as the northern climates of Labrador have short summers.

The twig is in two year-growths to represent the past and future of Labrador. The shorter growth of the inner twigs represents the hardships of the past, while the outer twigs are longer as a representation of the hope Labradorians have for the future. The three branches represent the three founding nations of Labrador; the Innu, the Inuit, and the white settler. The three branches emerging from a single stalk represents the unity of the distinct peoples in the brotherhood of mankind. (from wikipedia)
I used Finger Paints Paper Mache as the base. Then I used tape to do the green with American Apparel Hunter (which I also used to freehand the twig). Again I used tape to do the Sally Hansen Insta-Dri Blue-Away. I was in a hurry for this one so I used a coat of Seche Vite in between each layer instead of waiting for them to dry (worked like a charm) and topped it off with one coat of SV.

Day 27: Inspired by ARTWORK

How vague.. inspired by "artwork"... hasn't all of the days so far been about "art". There's art in color, patterns, songs, movies, books, & fashion.. This one had me stumped big time... actually, I felt very uninspired.

Until... I remembered this lovely painting that a friend of mine did for me about a year ago, it hangs in the hallway just outside my room. It's titled l'eau and I can only assume she thought of my love for swimming when she made this for me :)

The painting immediately inspired me.. I can only hope I did it justice.

I used Cult Nails Time Traveler (love this blue!)
Painted/dotted on the details using a nail art brush, dotting tool, Finger Paints Paper Mache and Nicole by OPI Give me the 1st Dance.

My mani might have done it justice, but this photo doesn't.. the lighting in my hallway was not ideal for photographing it... but you get the idea :)

Day 26: Inspired by A PATTERN

First of all, this color is so hard to photograph... my apologies. Sunlight was the closest I could get to color accuracy, but it turned out a little on the neon side. The base was Sally Hansen Salon Manicure Kook-A-Mango, the plaid stripes are painted with a nail art brush, Sally Hansen Salon Manicure Bittersweet and Finger Paints Paper Mache.
Secondly, I love plaid nails, and this was the first chance I had to try them out myself. I followed a plaid nail tutorial over at Nails by Asami. Hope you like it :)

Day 25: Inspired by FASHION

I am very unfamiliar with fashion and trends... so I did what any person would do and I googled it lol... and by it I mean "fashion". Luckily, this very helpful website came up: Fashion Magazine online. And I came across this gorgeous dress that Jessica Chastain wore to the 2012 oscars, designed by Alexander McQueen. (You can see the photo of the dress at the bottom of the post)

Don't forget to head over the these other lovely blogs to see what Fashion-inspired manis the girls came up with:

Quick and simple... I used Finger Paints Black Expressionism as my base
Stamped with Zoya Goldie and BM-222
Then freehanded the V's on the tips of the nail with black expressionism again.
(Only one decent picture today.. my camera was low on battery and I couldn't get it to focus properly)

And of course, the beautiful dress that inspired me...

Day 24: Inspired by A BOOK

I waited as long as I could to remove my V for Vendetta nails today... so today's post is later than usual.

It took me a while to choose which book I'd like to be inspired by lol. I don't do a lot of reading, and I already did Hunger Games nails.. and it seems like Harry Potter has been done many many times. So Instead, I thought of different children's books.
This book is close to my heart, my mom used to sing this to me as a child (yes.. sing). This book was created after a song by Dolly Parton - Coat of Many Colors. It was my favourite book when I was really little and my mom adored it... so I give you my nails made of rags :)

I used way too many colors to list here today.

My pictures are a little smaller than usual, this mani looked better far back than under the microscope.

And the book that I took the inspiration from...

Day 23: Inspired by A MOVIE

Sorry that this post is so late today, I had to study last night for my midterm earlier today so I didn't get started on this mani until late this afternoon. But, I think it was worth the wait.. this is by far the best freehand work I have done so far.. I am so proud of this one :)

"VoilĂ ! In view, a humble vaudevillian veteran, cast vicariously as both victim and villian by the vicissitudes of Fate. This visage, no mere veneer of vanity, is a vestige of the vox populi, now vacant, vanished. However, this valorous visitation of a by-gone vexation, stands vivified and has vowed to vanquish these venal and virulent vermin vanguarding vice and vouchsafing the violently vicious and voracious violation of volition. The only verdict is vengence; a vendetta, held as a votive, not in vain, for the value and veracity of such shall one day vindicate the vigilant and the virtuous. Verily, this vichyssoise of verbiage veers most verbose, so let me simply add that it is my very good honor to meet you and you may call me V." - My favourite Monologue from my favourite movie, V for Vendetta

Without further ado.. I give you my nails inspired by V for Vendetta

I used Finger Paints Black Expressionism as the base
Freehanded the Guy Fawkes mask with Finger Paints Paper Mache, Gosh Miss Grey, & Wet N Wild True Love (mixed with paper mache).
The V symbol is freehanded with Sally Hansen Xtreme Wear Cherry Red.

And for your viewing pleasure... (hehe)

Day 22: Inspired by A SONG

♫ This is how I roll, animal print pants outta control

Hehe this is why I couldn't do leopard print nails for Day 13: Animal Print. I don't listen to a huge variety of music but when I saw this music video I couldn't stop laughing, and it's a super catchy song.

So for today's mani, I was inspired by "I'm Sexy and I Know it" by LMFAO (See the music video HERE)

If you're familiar with LMFAO you are definitely familiar with this song, and you know their awesome animal print pants hehe.. So I give you my version of them...

The picture doesn't quite capture how shiny the colors are, they are all metallic.. but does it resemble the pic from the music video below? :)

I used Sally Hansen Insta-Dri Whirlwind White as my base,
Sponged on Gosh Metallic Blue & Metallic Green, Love & Beauty pale pink, and Sally Hansen HD Hue. Then I stamped with BM-221 and Finger Paints Black Expressionism.
With the same colors listed above, I used a dotting tool and filled in the random spots.

Check out the girls' blogs to see what song's inspired their manis today!!

Day 21: Inspired by A COLOR

Finger Paints Artists Inspiration: What's more inspiring than that? lol

To be honest I wasn't thrilled about this day in the challenge, it seems a little boring since there was an entire portion of the challenge dedicated to colors already... but I do really love this color and the name fits! :)

I was sorting through my polishes on sunday and came across 'Artists Inspiration' and knew that this was the perfect polish for today. I bought this polish at Sally's about a month ago and still hadn't gotten around to using it... which is a shame because I absolutely love this color!! It was opaque in 2 coats and was relatively non-streaky for a metallic color.. you can expect to see this polish again..

So, I was inspired by Finger Paints Artist's Inspiration.. but I couldn't just do a swatch, so I did a little taping on my middle and ring finger with Rimmel 60seconds Desert Beauty.

From what I hear, most people don't like to paint their nails with brown hue's, but I love them. Either way, If you're apprehensive about brown polish, this metallic one is the way to go! It is so gorgeous! :)

Day 20: WATER MARBLED

Today concludes the "Patterns" section of the 31 Day Challenge, can you believe it? We're 2/3 the way through! :) This month is flying by!

I just want to start by saying that Water Marbling is a royal pain in the..... as I'm sure most of you already know. Unless you've had luck with it, in which case, I hate you lol. While I love the look of it, especially the extremely impressive marbling that The Nail Network has been known for, I find it very difficult to achieve the desired look.

With that said, this is the best marbling I have done yet, but it took forever to accomplish...

Indoor lighting (Lightbox)
Indirect Sunlight

Once again, the pink was hard to get an accurate photo of, this mani is actually quite bright and "bubble-gum-like" in person (I need/want a new camera).

I used Sally Hansen Insta-Dri Whirlwind White as my base.
Then water marbled using:
Finger Paints Well-Cultured Pearl
American Apparel Pink Ladies
China Glaze Secret Peri-Wink-le
Rimmel Lasting Finish Pro Wild Orchid

Day 19: GALAXIES

I am loving the "Patterns" section of the 31 Day Challenge. Galaxy nails was another one of those designs I had been wanting to try but never got around to it.

I'm not gonna lie, this was way better in my head than it turned out, but I still like it :)

Also, no picture of my thumb today, I had some major black nail polish leakage into my cuticles lol.

I used Finger Paints Black Expressionism as my base and sponged on Orly Rock Solid, Gosh Metallic Blue, Rimmel Lasting Finish Pro Hard Metal and Rags to Riches, and Sally Hansen New Lengths City Lights.
Then I topped it off with Orly Shine on Crazy Diamond.

I blurred this picture so you can see how sparkly the mani turned out because of Orly Rock Solid and Shine on Crazy Diamond :)

Again, don't forget to pop over to the other ladies' blogs to see their Galaxy nails..
