"Design your nails to match the summer's scorching temperatures". Living in Newfoundland the only heat I'm ever concerned about is that from summer bonfires! :) We don't get temperatures too hot around here.... so I created this Hot, Hot water marble to resemble a campfire.
I used Finger Paints Paper Mache as the base..
And then marbled with: Sally Hansen X-treme wear Cherry Red, Sun Kissed, & Mellow Yellow.
The first thing that came to my mind when I thought of a pool party was an itsy bitsy teeny weeny yellow polka dot bikini ;) But once I started painting my nails I wasn't liking the results.. so I went for the next best thing, a beach ball.. what's a pool party without a beach ball?
I used all Sally Hansen Insta-Dri Polishes for this mani & a nail art brush:
Pink: Speedy Sunburst
Blue: Brisk Blue
White: Whirlwind White
I apologize, I didn't take very clear pictures of this mani... my camera was being difficult :(
Today's mani is my entry for April's nail art contest over at Concrete and Nail Polish. This is a 'play to the judge' type of contest... So April posted links to her facebook, pinterest, and goodreads page to help her readers find inspiration for a manicure. I found an awesome poster from Brainstorm on her 'nail inspiration' board on pinterest.
I took my inspiration from the Atmosphere poster. I adore Brainstorm.com by the way, so I really enjoyed doing this manicure.
From Thumb to pinky I did each of the sphere's:
Exosphere (thumb): Finger Paints Black Expressionism
Thermosphere (index): Cult Nails Time Traveler
Mesosphere (middle): China Glaze First Mate
Stratosphere (ring): Gosh Blue Balloon
Troposphere (pinky): Sally Hansen Insta-Dri Brisk Blue
All details were painted using a dotting tool or nail art brush and Finger Paints Paper Mache

What do you guys think? I may do the Earth and Ocean posters another time, this was a fun mani :)
I am so pleased to announce the winner of my giveaway. But before I do I just have a few things to say. First of all thank you so much to all of my followers... this giveaway gave me a chance to give back to one of you and I am so happy to do so. For all of the followers I gained because of this giveaway, I do hope you enjoy my blog and stick around :)
I received a lot of positive feedback about my blog and a few requests...
I am happy to say that I have taken into consideration each and every suggestion, including the lovely ladies who told me to be myself.. and have decided that I will be adding a few things to my blog over the next little while:
I will be doing more haul posts on my blog (I'm waiting on a few things to come in the mail and I will be doing one for May/June very soon)
As some of you may have noticed I added a 'tutorials' tab at the top of my blog.. I'm trying to figure out what kind of tutorials I will start doing but I will keep you posted.
To be honest I find swatch posts very boring. My primary reason for following blogs is to see nail art. but I have to keep all of my followers in mind so I decided that I will do swatches, however, they will be included in my nail art posts so you will have to keep your eye out for them.
My stash happens to be very small compared to other bloggers so I will not be doing a stash post. I might change my mind in the future when my stash gets a little bigger, but for now I will leave it as is.
As for the other small requests, I of course will continue to do freehand nail art, stamping, challenges and maybe throw in some more water marbling! :)
Thank you all so much for taking the time to leave comments, I love you all!
As for the giveaway... I went through and deleted any wrong answers for the bonus question. Just for everyone's peace of mind my sister's name is Catherine. For any dedicated followers who read all the way through my boring post the day before, I left the answer at the bottom ;) One awesome follower actually got her full name, Catherine Nicole Rogers (and it wasn't some longtime friend either!) - Stalker? lol just kidding. One other follower said I made it too easy, so for my next giveaway I'll be sure to make it a little trickier :)
I will be sorting through my giveaway entries and picking a winner very soon.. but this post should tie you over :)
It took a while, but I finally received my giant stamping plate from lightinthebox.com. Let me just say that it is awesome!! There are tons of full nail designs - I think most, if not all, are konad knockoffs. They are excellent quality designs, even the most detailed designs transferred onto my nails just fine :)
As soon as it came in I couldn't wait to do a manicure. I sat for a while trying to pick which design to use.. and finally came up with this:
I used Finger Paints Black Expressionism & Nicole by O.P.I Save me the 1st Dance as my bases
Then stamped with Konad special silver polish and FP Black Expressionism.
And here is a (not so good) photo of the large stamping plate with 221 designs
Stayed tuned for my giveaway winner announcement! :)
I am so thrilled to share with you an award that was passed on to me by Manases Andrea from Colour Your Life! :)
She graciously awarded me with an appreciation award!
I'm a little unclear about the rules of this award but Manases passed it along to 10 blogs so I will do the same. Many awards are limited to blogs with fewer than 200 followers, but I decided since the rules weren't clear to choose 10 blogs I love that have under 500 followers.
I stumbled upon this nail art challenge late yesterday afternoon and asked to join in right away. I know it's last minute but I love challenges because they give me plenty of inspiration :)
I'm quite happy that this challenge won't be as intense as the 31 Day Challenge. It's sweet and simple. There will be 8 posts total, 2 per week for 4 weeks. The lovely Lindsey over at Neverland Nail Blog created this challenge. I'm a little late with this post, but from now my challenge posts will be on Tuesday and Thursday each week. And here are the themes:
To check out this challenge at any time you can click my new 'Nail Art Challenges' tab under my blog header and go from there :)
So, today is Day 1: Grill Master! I have to admit I had a lot of trouble getting inspired for this mani. I resorted to google images and found this:
I used Finger Paints Paper Mache for my base.
All the rest was painting using various nail art brushes and the following polishes:
Orly Coffee Break (Letters)
Sally Hansen Xtreme Wear Sun Kissed & Mellow Yellow (Flames)
& Finger Paints Black Expressionism (Outline)
Like I said, a little uninspired. Good news is I am looking forward to all of the other days of the challenge, I have all kinds of ideas running through my head. Stay tuned for Day 2 on Thursday :)
Like I said before, there are a lot of changes happening to my blog :)
I have added and edited a few of my links at the top of the page and I want all of my readers to be aware of the changes that I made...
You may have noticed my 'Home' button is missing.. from now on you can navigate back to the home page by just clicking on my blog header.
I also added a tutorials button :) Unfortunately, I don't have any tutorials for you guys yet.. but I'm working up some ideas so stay tuned...
My 'Nail art Challenges' button is not new, but edited a fair bit. Now if you click there you will be directed to a page that will list all of the challenges that I am working on or have completed (only the 31 Day challenge can be found there right now). (See photo below)
Within that page, I have also edited my 31 Day challenge page so that you can select any photo from the challenge and be directed to the original blog post. Check it all out using the link at the top of the page :)
And one last thing: My 'contests' page includes all nail art contests that I have entered. Within that page you can click on any photo and be redirected to my blog post, and from there click the link to whichever challenge I entered. The most recent contest entries are first on that page so you may find current contests that you can enter too - I will be adding to that page soon.
Just wanted to point out that I'm an organizational freak, so I wanted to make my blog a little more user-friendly. If anyone has any further suggestions on something I could change or add, don't hesitate to let me know :)
Hello my lovely readers! I mentioned a little while ago that there was going be some changes made to the blog and I am so excited to share with you Kelsie's Nail Files new makeover!
I contacted Sarah from ChalkBoardNails after I saw her amazing work for KaylaShevonne.com. I always felt that I wanted my blog to feel more unique.. so I gave Sarah some loose guidelines and she created this:
What an amazing job, I am so happy with how it turned out.
I want to say a big THANK YOU to Sarah for all of her help :)
Now, to celebrate the new blog look in the best way I know how... I give you my nail art of the day...
The inspiration came from Sarah's design. The gradient came from the nail polish bottle on my new blog signature which you can see at the bottom of this post.
I used Rimmel 60seconds Deliciously Dark (a dark plum) for the base coat.
Then I used my nail art brush to paint the stars using:
Finger Paints Lemon Sour (Yellow)
Sally Hansen Xtreme wear Cherry Red
Rimmel Lasting Finish Pro Wild Orchid (Purple)
& Gosh Blue Balloon
(I used the same 4 colors for the gradient on my accent nail)
So sorry for being MIA all week, this has been the longest I've gone between posts since starting this blog in February. The week was just really busy, I was finishing up 2 of my intersession (6-week) courses and let me just say that 6 weeks sneaks up on you really fast! I did do a manicure in the middle of the week but that was for an upcoming guest post ;) You'll see it soon enough.. anyways, on to today's gradient manicure...
It is safe to say this gradient did not work out as planned. I am so envious of bloggers who can make their gradients look so amazingly flawless. It could be because my color choices were not similar enough.. or just because I didn't blend them enough before using the sponge... Regardless, I need to practice :)
This idea came from Marta over at ChitChatNails. She did this post in May during my 31 day challenge, and I saved a photo of it immediately in my "nails to try" folder on my desktop lol. I was looking for an idea for a manicure over the weekend and I remembered this one and got super excited.
It has also been a while since I sported a Cult Nails manicure, and I didn't realize there were a few polishes I hadn't tried yet!?! So I opted to do opposite colors to Marta, and grabbed let me fly from my Cult Nails stash.
I used Sally Hansen Salon Manicure Naked Ambition as a base color on my two accent nails.
(I love this look by the way!)
Then I stamped with BM-221 and Finger Paints Black Expressionism.
Finally, I used a dotting tool and filled in some of the spots with Sally Hansen Salon Manicure Bittersweet & Revlon Orange Pop scented polish.
Indirect Sunlight: This photo was taken the morning after.
*Warning: This post is pic heavy (how could it not be lol?)
I was planning on saving this post for tomorrow.. but I just hit 200 followers!!! :D So I couldn't help myself.. besides, I'm wearing Chanel, darling! ;)
I finished this mani about 20min ago, took photos, uploaded them, and here we are. This polish is fabulous.. and I was incredibly lucky to win it in Varnished Valkyrie's giveaway! How awesome is that?!
This is one of those polishes you can't take your eyes off of. I think this is one of my favourite stamping manicures so far too :) So without further ado I give you... Chanel Péridot! (swatches at the bottom)
I used 2 coats of Chanel Péridot.
Stamped with Finger Paints black expressionism and BM-210.
The added sparkle is L.A.Colors Nail Art Deco silver glitter.
And I topped it all off with 2 coats of Seche Vite.
As part of my giveaway I asked all of you lovely readers what things you would like to see on my blog, and a few people mentioned swatches. What better polish to start with? I'm not a big fan of swatch posts myself, when I browse blogs I'm usually looking for unique nail art or stamping. However, I will start swatching various polishes from now on, but they will be swatches of my base-coats used in my regular nail art posts. I will start with today... here are a few swatches of the lovely Chanel Péridot:
A big thank you to Kas and George for giving away this treasure! :)
