12 Days of Christmas Nail Art Challenge: 3…2…1… HAPPY NEW YEAR!

I scheduled this post so that I could wish you all a happy new year just as the clock turns to midnight in Newfoundland, Canada (little known fact: it's the first place in Canada to strike midnight because of it's half hour time zone and being as far east as you can get).

I'm particularly enjoying my quiet Newfoundland Christmas at my parent's house and I hope that all of you are getting some well-deserved rest this holiday season.

For this look I started with a base of OPI Black Onyx, the fireworks were stamped from BM-H14 using Barry M Gold Foil. The glitter is a combination of Shimmer Polish Julie and China Glaze Your Present Required.

I also decided to do an alternated accent manicure (idea from Chit Chat Nails).. so you get to see my rarely photographed (and photo-shy) right hand (on the bottom)...

2013 has been an amazing year here at Kelsie's Nail Files, and I hope to continue blogging through 2014. I also want to wish all of my lovely readers a Happy New Year and all the best in 2014! Party safe this evening!!

Today is the final day of the 12 days of Christmas nail art challenge… it has been a ton of fun, don't forget to head over to Nailed It NZ to see what the other ladies have created for their New Years celebrations :)

12 Days of Christmas Nail Art Challenge: Christmas Sparkle

The theme for today's challenge day was chosen purposely because it would be a simple and broad concept for participants during this busy family-filled time of the month… and that was a great idea.

Most of my manicures for this challenge were done before I left Halifax, because when I get home for the holidays I tend to stick to very simple design ideas rarely featuring any specific or detailed nail art.

This manicure is no exception…
Indoors with Flash
This is two coats of China Glaze Your Present Required (from the Happy HoliGlaze Collection) layered over OPI Black Onyx.

Indoors with flash
This multi-glitter polish is fantastic for the holidays, especially New Years! There's a little bit of everything in there, the large white glitters are my favourite (even though they are sparse within the bottle)… and I didn't have to fiddle around with the glitter placement on my nail, it worked out on its own.

Don't forget to check out Nailed It NZ to see the other entries for today. And join me on the 31st for the final day of the challenge, New Years!!! :)

Hope you are all enjoying the holidays!

12 Days of Christmas Nail Art Challenge: Santa and Friends

I sort of overlooked the "and friends" part of this challenge and just focused on my main man, Santa.

This look is inspired by the jolly red man himself… and I added some glitter to jazz him up a little :)

The base is Shimmer Polish Cindy. Then I freehanded the rest using OPI Alpine Snow, OPI Black Onyx, Pier 1 Imports Platinum Spark, and the small details on the belts are Essie Bikini so Teeny.

Right now I am celebrating Christmas eve with my family, and my grandmother is here visiting. I hope that you all have a wonderful holiday and that Santa spoils you! :)

Happy holidays!! xox

12 Days of Christmas Nail Art Challenge: Christmas Decorations (bps product review)

This will be short and sweet :) I'm in the middle of packing because I am flying to St. John's tomorrow and then I'm off to my parents house in central Newfoundland for the holidays!

Today's challenge includes Christmas Decorations so I stamped the Christmas bells design from BM-H03. I also included these adorable snowflake glitter pieces from Born Pretty Store.

The base colour is Sally Hansen Salon Manicure Red My Lips.

The snow glitter pieces are very cute. I struggled to get them to lay flat on my nails though, but I kinda like how they look 3D instead. I used a little bit of rhinestone glue to get them to stay put.

They retail for $3.48 for this container that will last you a lifetime! :) And don't forget you can get 10% off with my coupon code (in addition to awesome holiday specials right now).

12 Days of Christmas Nail Art Challenge: Snow (bps product review)

Some new nail art products from Born Pretty Store arrived the other day and I would like to review them before the new year, so I have included them in a few of the challenge days that are coming up (and also included one in today's manicure - read on for more information)

As you may have read, today's challenge is Snow… snowflakes and snowmen… I decided to include both. This manicure was inspired in-part by It's all about nails.

I started with a base of Finger Paints Cerulean Seascape. Then I painted the snowman using several polishes including OPI Alpine Snow for the white. The snowflakes were stamped using konad special white polish and the stamping plate (QA58) from Born Pretty Store featured below

This stamp is quite large, and features so many snowflakes!! :) (I also really like the holly). The two largest ones are huge, they will only fit half-way onto any of my nails… someone with really long nails would especially appreciate these. And then the other designs vary in size, but would fit nicely on any nail. The stamp retails for $1.49 USD with free worldwide shipping and there are some great holiday sales happening right now!

Don't forget you can get 10% off with my coupon code…

And one last picture of my manicure…

Head over to Nailed It NZ to see the other snowy manicures :)

Cult Nails Midnight Masquerade Collection

Let me start by saying if you are not yet a part of the Cult, you should be! :)

My boyfriend recently bought me several Cult polishes for my birthday… unfortunately, the package didn't arrive due to some shipping complications, but when I contacted Maria she immediately sent out another and - being the amazing person that she is - threw in this mini-collection with the rest.

This mini-collection contains 3, beautiful, limited edition shades from Cult Nails.

Right to left: Masquerade, Masquerade layered over Ms Conduct, Ms Conduct, and Midnight Mist...

Top to Bottom: Midnight Mist, Masquerade, Ms. Conduct

Midnight Mist - A taupe/green polish with a glow that runs a deep gold to ember glow. This is a thin layerable polish that allows the depth of the glow to shine through (CultNails Blog)
Midnight Mist Comparison: Natural Light vs. Flash

Masquerade - A green jelly base packed with a duochrome of purple to copper. The purple overtakes the green for a dramatic effect. This is a thin layerable polish that can be layered over other vampy shades to intensify the effect or you can wear this beauty on it's own. (CultNails Blog)
Masquerade Comparison: Natural Light vs. Flash

Ms Conduct This taupe meets brown creme is a bit of a coy polish. Depending on your skin tone the color can intensify to a deeper vampy look. (CultNails Blog)

I totally flipped when I saw that this collection had been added into my b-day package and I'm so happy that I could swatch and share these beautiful shades with all of you. If you were among the lucky few to pick up this collection, I hope you're as happy with it as I am. And if not, don't worry Cult Nails has many plans for the new year and I for one cannot wait to see what collections Maria will come up with next! :)

12 Days of Christmas Nail Art Challenge: Christmas Movie

I am super excited about today's challenge because I was finally able to sit down for some length of time and do a freehand design :)

My exams are almost over, my final one is first thing tomorrow morning and I'm already starting to feel the stress relief…

In the meanwhile I want to share with you today my manicure inspired by Rise of the Guardians!

For those of you unfamiliar with this movie, it is a cute family animation film that came out last year around Christmas time and features an interesting story about Jack Frost coming-of-age among the other holiday celebs (Santa Claus, Easter Bunny, Sandman, Toothfairy). If you like family animated films I suggest you check it out, it's super cute.

I decided to paint the adorable elves from Santa's workshop (who rival Despicable Me's minions)...

There are way too many polishes to list for this manicure but if you want to know a specific shade just ask in comments and I will try to answer :)

The design was created with a small nail art brush and various shades of polish (no acrylic paint).

Above you can see the manicure before I added the matte top coat. This was one of the only photos that turned out because the shine was interfering with the design… so I turned to a matte top coat which helped me to photograph it and I kinda like the effect…

Check out Nailed It NZ for some Elf inspired looks among a Grinch design, Love Actually, and The Santa Clause… the girls really got creative with this one! :)

12 Days of Christmas Nail Art Challenge: Santa's Workshop

I'm a couple days late for this one because I was finishing up my last few exams… but I'm pre-dating it so that I keep my challenge days straight :)

I have to admit this challenge day was my least favourite. It took me a long time to come up with an idea for Santa's Workshop/list... another reason why it's late.

But eventually I stumbled upon a manicure that Kayla Shevonne did for Christmas last year and knew it would be a great idea… Christmas Elves!

The greens are Sally Hansen Salon Manicure Grass Slippers and Sally Hansen Insta-Dri Mint Sprint. The red is China Glaze Adventure Red-Y… the gold is Pier 1 Imports Platinum Spark.

Don't forget to check out the other designs for Santa's Workshop/List at Nailed It NZ.

12 Days of Christmas Nail Art Challenge: Christmas Carol

♬ Rudolph the red-nosed reindeer ♬

It isn't the exact design I had in mind, but it turned out cute enough :)

I started with a base of OPI Berlin There, Done That and stamped on the reindeer from BM-H01 using konad special white polish. The noses were added using a dotting tool and Jordanna Hawaiian Flower.

Exams are slowly (VERY slowly!) coming to an end.. I have a few more and then I'm free for the holidays :)

Anyways, check out Nailed It NZ to see today's challenge entries…
