As girly as it gets

I have been admiring the little freehand rose nail art that many bloggers have been trying lately... and finally decided to give it a go myself.

I used both Marta's (Chit Chat Nails) and Sammy's (The Nailasaurus) manicures for inspiration...

Quoting Sammy, "Every now and then, one of those special manis comes along. The ones you absolutely love and never want to take off" - this was definitely one of those! I kept this one on for 2 days and when the pin stripe nails started to peel I just painted them pink :)

I started with a coat of China Glaze Re-Fresh Mint on all nails but my pinky. The Pinky is Etude Pink. For the flowers I blobbed on Etude Pink and then freehanded the rest with Finger Paints White Expressionism, Jordana Pink Romance and American Apparel Hunter.

And for a treat, here's my right hand.. Took a little bit more time but my left hand did a pretty decent job of it :P

Stay tuned, my cousin Phoebe is making another appearance here tomorrow :)

Classy Color Block

I'll keep this short and sweet. This is a manicure I tried out during my week off and I'm sharing it with you now :)

I followed the tutorial over at Chit Chat Nails, and created the design using China Glaze Liquid Leather, Gosh Miss Grey, China Glaze Pelican Gray and Finger Paints White Expressionism.

I really enjoy the color block look but found that most of them didn't include the white "frame" lines, which meant that it involved placing tape, painting, removing tape, waiting for it to dry and repeating a few times (or attempting it freehand). Marta's tutorial was quick and easy to follow and I will be trying it again in the future on more than one nail.

Around the World Challenge: New York

Starting today and continuing every saturday until August 3rd I will be participating in the Around The World Challenge hosted by Guilty As Charged! :)

I'm super excited to participate in this challenge. It's been a while since I did any freehand work around here so it's time I get back into it :)

To start things off we are travelling to New York!! Sadly I've only been to one place on that entire list, Vancouver, but many are on my wish list and New York is definitely one of them!

For this design I was inspired by the New York taxi cabs, the typical "touristy" I <3 NY shirts, and of course lady liberty :)

I started with a base of Finger Paints Paper Mache on each nail. The checkered design is stamped on (not very well mind you), and the rest was done with a nail art brush with the following colors...

China Glaze Liquid Leather, Sally Hansen Xtreme Wear Cherry Red, & Sally Hansen Insta Dri Lightening.

I was in a bit of a rush with this manicure because I only just found out about this challenge the other day. So I didn't bother to top coat (for fear of ruining it) and just photographed it before moving on to another work-appropriate nail design. But I have some fun ideas in mind for the rest of the challenge and I can't wait to share them with you!

If you want to check out the other challenge entries head over to Guilty as Charged! And if you want to participate it's not too late to join in!! :)

GUEST POST: Chit Chat Nails

I cannot begin to explain how thrilled I am to have Marta here today!! For those of you who do not know (you must be new around here lol!) Marta is the lovely lady behind the Canadian blog, Chit Chat Nails.

There are many of Marta's designs pinned on my "nail art" Pinterest board for me to recreate at a later date. And a few designs I've already created and shared on here or on my Instagram.

I adore her blog for many reasons... her nails are what drew me in, but her personality and passion that she puts into it are what has me awe-struck. Marta adds just the right amount of charm to her posts and I feel like I've already met her when I read them. Next time I'm around Ontario I will be sure to schedule a coffee date with her! :)

Enough of me blabbering... I'll let her take it away!

Hello Lovely Ladies,
My name is Marta and I run a Canadian nail-art blog called ChitChat Nails... and boy am I excited to be here!!!!
I have so much admiration for Kelsie and her nail-art skills; being invited to do a guest post is a true honor.

Kelsie is amazing at stamping but I am fascinated with her freehand work the most.  I know that I will never match her skill, so I prepared a stamped skittlette manicure instead.

This manicure started out with OPI's upcoming Liquid Sand shade "Pussy Galore" (what a name right?!) from The Bond Girls collection (out this May 2013).  It is a soft pearly-pink with some pretty awesome texture.  Worn on its own it is very innocent pearly-pink, but I wanted to kick it up a notch.

I painted my middle finger with Cult Nails "Nevermore" and added a few pink square rhinestones.  For my ring finger I painted a white base and stamped the zebra print (both Kelsie and I seem to really like animal print, so I thought "why not?!") with Bundle Monster plate BM-223.

I really enjoy mixing textures and shades together when creating a skittlette manicure.  I hope you like this one!
*hugs* Marta
THANK YOU FOR READING!

I love this! Animal print, pink, rhinestones.. and I'm even digging the textured polish (which I've been shying away from).

Swatches, stamping, and skittlettes are the most common posts you will see over at Chit Chat Nails.. but if you pay close attention you will also get to see Marta's amazing (and rarely seen) freehand skills!

Marta, THANK YOU so so much for taking time from your busy schedule with your own blog and adorable family to do a post for me :)

GUEST POST: Sincerely Stephanie

This next blogger has been a huge inspiration to me since I started my blog! :) Her nail art is fabulous and she's always coming up with unique manicure ideas (including many skittlette's I admire).

Her nail art today is no exception (it's already given me a few ideas!).

I'm going to let her take over and show you what I mean... :)

I'm so happy to introduce... Stephanie from Sincerely Stephanie!!

____________________________________________________________________________

Hi Everyone!
I'm Stephanie and I run the little Canadian nail art blog Sincerely Stephanie. I am really excited to be guest posting here today on Kelsie's Nail Files! Kelsie is amazingly talented and a fellow Canadian! I completely admire her rocking freehand skills and the super creative stamped looks she comes up with.

Today I have a combination of freehand and studded look to share with you. One of my absolute favourite colour combinations for nails are black and white. The contrast is so striking and there are so many looks you can come up with.

For this look I started off with the best white creme ever, Cult Nails Tempest on my index, ring and pinky nails. For my accent nails I used Wet n Wlld Black Creme. For my accent nails I used my slowest drying top coat and then added the silver bullion beads in a straight line up my nail. For the rest of my nails I used black creme and my smallest nail art brush and created some random wavy patterns on my nails until I liked the look of them

This combination is fun and bold and completely out of character for spring, but who says you have to match your nails to the season?!

I want to thank Kelsie for asking me to guest post for her! It's an honour to be on her awesome blog!!
I hope all of you are having a fantastic day :D

Freehand, accent nails, skittles, stamping, 3D nail art... this girl is such a well-rounded blogger!!

I love this black and white look, and it is also one of my favourite combinations (that I unfortunately don't do often enough).

Thank you so much Stephanie for doing a post for me, it is an honor to have you here! :)

GUEST POST: Chameleon Stampede

A unique blog name, for a very unique blogger. Mandy over at Chameleon Stampede has a style all her own and it's one of the things I love about her blog :)

And.. she just recently celebrated her one year blogiversary!! So... Happy one year blogging to you, Mandy, and I look forward to another year!

____________________________________________________________________________

Hi Everyone!  My name is Mandy and I have a blog called the Chameleon Stampede.  I'm thrilled to do a guest post for Kelsie today!  I've only been blogging for a year and Kelsie was one of the most helpful people to me as a new blogger.  She gave me some great suggestions and insights.  I'm very grateful to Kelsie for that.  Additionally, her blog is awesome! :)

In the spirit of the encouragement that Kelsie gave me, I decided to try something completely new for this guest posting honor.  I tried a one stroke mani!  It's a bit... ahem... abstract.  But, I'm learning and I'm proud that it looks like 'something' and not just a blob.  I think it looks kind of like a poppy or maybe a pansy.  I'm excited about it and I'll keep trying.

The base polish is called Kahuna from the Indie brand 'Above the Curve'.  It's a gorgeous teal blue holo that covers beautifully in two coats.  The one stroke flowers were done with acrylic paint.

Thanks again for asking me to do a post, Kelsie!  So sweet of you and I'm thrilled to do it :)
-Mandy

Wow! The one-stroke manicure has intimidated me for ages!! I applaud Mandy for trying it, and succeeding in my books!! :)

Mandy, Thank you so so much for taking the time to try something new and sharing it on my blog :D

GUEST POST: A Little Polish

I like to consider this next blogger a friend of mine, ever since we did the 31 Day Challenge together back in May last year. Stephanie from A Little Polish is a very talented nail artist, and a source of inspiration for many of my own manicures :)

I hope that myself and Stephanie can continue to keep in touch, this won't be the last you see of her on my blog...

____________________________________________________________________________

Hello Loves! I was so flattered when Kelsie asked me if I would be interested in Guest Posting for her. Not only has she Guest Posted on my blog but she also has super awesome nail designs and I love reading her blog; so obviously I said YES without thinking twice.

Kelsie’s nails are always so cute and I feel like her and I have similar styles when we do our nails (at least I like to think that lol) so I when I did this bright, fun, stamping mani, I knew it would be perfect.

For this manicure, I used Sally Hansen “Magenta Moves”, and then stamped over it with using both Wet ‘n Wild “I Need A Refresh-Mint”, and Sally Hansen “Parrot”, then topped it off with a clear coat of Liquid Lacquer “No Time” topcoat. I used Pueen-04. I loved how this mani was simple but came out looking really cool, it almost reminds me of woven fabric.

I hope that you enjoyed seeing this creation and I wanted to thank Kelsie for asking me to be a part of her blog!
-Stephanie, A Little Polish

This manicure reminds me of a sweater my nan knit for me when I was little! I adore this look :)

I'd like to say a HUGE thank you to Stephanie for taking the time to create this adorable look and sharing it on my blog!!

GUEST POST: Life In Color

I am so thrilled to introduce you all to a blogger that I admire, not only for her beautiful nails but for her many adventures in climbing mountains! Gosia from Life in Color, who at this very moment is on her way to climbing Everest!!

(If you want to check out where she is on the mountain you can check out this cybercast: http://www.alpineascents.com/everest-cybercast.asp)

How cool is that?! And Gosia was kind enough to do up this lovely guest post before she left...

____________________________________________________________________________

Hi Kelsie's Nail Filers!!
I'm Gosia and I run a little nail blog called Life In Color!.  Just like most of you, I'm such a crackhead when it comes to nail polish!

When I saw the email from Kelsie asking me to guest post for her, I almost fell out of my chair.  No kidding here, she has been one of my favorite bloggers for quite a while now!  Half of my Monkey-See-Monkey-Do folder consists of beautiful pictures of immaculate nails painted by Kelsie.  So I really hope I do her blog justice with my own mani! =)
I decided to show you all one of my newest additions, piCture pOlish "Focus".

"Focus" is a red-violet loaded with pink/purple glass flecks.  Two coats of smooth formula covered my nails completely!

My accent nail has a white base of Cult Nails "Tempest" and a geometric design from SH-01 using Sally Hansen "Flirt".

I know my nails don't look even half as beautiful as Kelsie's, but I hope you guys enjoyed them nevertheless.  Kelsie, thank you so much for having me on your blog today!  I hope you have a fabulous time on your vacation!!

____________________________________________________________________________

piCture pOlish has been a brand on my wish list for ages and this shade only makes me want it more! And accent nails are my favourite!! Thank you Gosia for sharing this lovely polish with us and good luck with your climb!! :)

GUEST POST: Brush Me Blush

Here's to starting the week of guest posts off with a BANG! :)

Today I have for you a guest post by Ria at Brush Me Blush. For those of you who do not know her, she has been blogging since last November and her nail art skills are to die for!! And... She won my nail art contest back in February with an amazing zebra-elephant-butterfly design!

So without further ado...
____________________________________________________________________________

Hello readers of Kelsie’s Nail Files. It’s a pleasure to be here :)

I have been meaning to do geisha nails for ever since I started doing nail art (what was it? A year ago?). Or at least some cherry blossoms. Well I combined them both and got this hit man looking geisha design. I think it has a fantastic contrast between geisha the symbol of grace and the gun which is a symbol of power. The gun it self actually looks rather pathetic :) I should have practiced more.

____________________________________________________________________________

What'd I tell you? AMAZING! Ria tends to keep things short and sweet and often allows her nails to do the talking, and you can see why.

If you do nothing else today, go follow this girl!! She is a nail artist to keep your eye on :)

And I want to say a huge thank you to Ria for taking the time to create this stunning manicure for me!!

April 19, 2013

I'm Finished my Undergrad!! So I'm taking a short Hiatus...

Finally!! I am unofficially considered a Kinesiologist!! (at least until May when my convocation takes place)   I wrote my last exam on Thursday and it feels fantastic to be done!! :)

I wasn't sure if I wanted to share this or not.. but decided that I want to... I have an interview for Physiotherapy school on Tuesday!! I'm super thrilled and very nervous at the same time... so wish me luck!

I also decided that I am in need of a little break (only a week no worries) from blogging. Originally, I had a week long trip planned but due to my interview I had to cancel. As a result, I had several guest posts lined up... And since I don't want them to go to waste, I am going ahead with the guest posts as planned and taking a little "me" time to unwind from this hectic semester.

So please enjoy the guest posts!! (The first one will be up later today) and I will see you all again in a week or so :)

Review: Born Pretty Store Diamond Glequins

These little buggers have given me a bit of trouble since they arrived in the mail. First of all the lid came a little loose in transit and some escaped and landed all over everything else in the package... so then I picked up as many as I could by sticking them to my finger and put them back into the container... Only to open the container today and find that most of the ones on top had stuck together (probably from me touching them). Good thing there are enough in the container to last me a decade so some casualties didn't hurt too bad!   :P

Anyways.. today I have a review of the diamond glitter from Born Pretty Store! :)

These apply the same as the hexagonal glitter or "glequins". I started with a base coat of China Glaze Liquid Leather and Pelican Gray (on the pinky), then while the polish was still a little tacky I added the individual pieces of glitter in the pattern shown and then added top coat. Once I took out some of the pieces that had all stuck together, the glitter was quite easy to work with. (I use an orange stick to pick up the pieces of glitter)

These glitter pieces give me an excellent idea for an argyle nail design (but part of me feels that I have seen another one around somewhere - maybe that's where I got the idea).. either way I will try one one of these days.

The container of glitter retails for $2.38 with 10 colors to choose from. Or you can get all 10 for $19.00.

Don't forget there's free international shipping on all orders, and you can get 10% off with my coupon code:

Love for Abstract

I have seen tons of abstract nail designs on pinterest and instagram lately and I adore them! One in particular by Nails By Mimi (@nailsbymimi) on instagram caught my attention and that is what inspired today's manicure :)

I started with a base of China Glaze First Mate on all nails except the pinky. Then I sponged on Essie Fair Game, OPI DS Magic and Etude Turquoise on the middle and ring finger. Etude Turquoise is the color on the pinky as well. Then I freehanded the abstract design with Finger Paints Paper Mache.

I'm so pleased with this combination of colors/design :)

And here's my right hand! A rarity to see... and as you might be able to tell it's a little less posable :P
