Center of Attention

I am still totally flipped out over the Dance all Night Collection by Cult Nails. I did this gorgeous manicure a couple of weeks ago when I saw the tutorial for this Glitter Tips design on Chit Chat Nails.

Marta did a stunning manicure using Time Traveller and Dance all Night... since I didn't want to copy her exactly, I created the look using Love at First Sight and Center of Attention...

The nude base is OPI Don't Pretzel my Buttons. (Keep reading to see this look with a wax top coat)

Like Marta, I decided to give this look a wax finish. I love how it mattified the nude shade but the glitter still shines through... it's a very cool effect!

As you can see this glitter tips gradient can be created with any length of fingernails. For people with shorter nails, it's a great way to get that "french tip" look without making your nails look shorter.

Review: Born Pretty Store Solingen Cuticle Cutters

Today I have a product that strays a little from the "nail art" products I usually review from Born Pretty Store... and leans more towards nail care. I chose to review this set of Solingen Cuticle Nippers...

Please Note: I am not a professional nail tech or manicurist. And I DO NOT cut my cuticles. (but keep reading for my honest review of this product and to find out why I still think "cuticle cutters" are essential in any manicure kit)

If you would like to check out my typical nail care routine you can do so here.

Around the World Challenge: Berlin

I'm extra excited about today's challenge day because in 6 weeks I will actually be on my way there!!! Today the Around the World Challenge is bringing us to Berlin, Germany!! :)

It was difficult to settle on a design for this week's challenge. Berlin is a beautiful city with lots of history... but history is a little bit difficult to portray on my fingernails. So I settled for a gradient of the German flag :)

The polishes I used are Finger Paints Black Expressionism, Sally Hansen X-treme wear Cherry Red, and Mellow Yellow. I topped it off with Cult Nails Wax That (wax-effect topcoat).

Let me tell you it is not easy to create a smooth gradient with such contrasting colors... and unfortunately the black leaked in to my cuticles big time on my middle nail. I tried my best to clean it up but you can only do so much with acetone.

Stay tuned, week 10 we will be travelling to Rome! And don't forget to check out the other challenge entires over at Guilty As Charged.

Review: Born Pretty Store stamping plate M57

I have a new product review for you today... not sure if any of you knew or not but Born Pretty Store carries stamping plates :) And they just happened to have a plate M57 that I have been on the hunt for...

Please Note: This is a Konad knock-off, not the real thing

Although it's a "Fauxnad" plate, the designs are all virtually identical, just much smaller than Konad plates, and smaller again to bundle monster (as seen in the photo below)

So.. which manicure did I create with this new fauxnad plate do you ask?

A transitional animal print of course!!

This is the second time I've attempted this design, but the first time around I didn't have the leopard or zebra print patterns (that are on M57) to match my other fauxnad plate.

But this time I didn't have to improvise...

I started with a base of Cult Nails Love at First Sight on my thumb and pinky and Cult Nails Faded on my other nails. I stamped with Konad special black polish.

You all might be wondering how I fit that tiny stamp on my nails (and my nail beds are quite large)... and the secret is, I didn't. Not at first. I actually stamped the leopard print twice and used a small nail art brush to fill in the open spaces on the zebra print nail. Then I used a dotting tool to add the spots of CN Love at First Sight throughout the leopard print.

You can get the stamping plate from Born Pretty Store for $2.99 and don't forget there's free international shipping!

And you can use my coupon code below for 10% off your purchase!

Cult Nails: Nakizzle's Shizzle

Last Monday (wow.. I didn't realize it was more than a week ago!) I had the lovely pleasure of tuning in to the Google Hangout hosted by Maria, the beautiful lady behind Cult Nails, featuring Judy from Beauty Judy, Krystal from Polish Galore, and Marta from Chit Chat Nails!

The girls casually chatted about new trends this summer, and the new Cult Nails collection scheduled to release in July... Maria also did three generous giveaways throughout the Hangout (unfortunately I was not a winner... maybe next time)... and then each of the ladies posted their own unique blog post featuring Cult Nails products immediately after.

Lucky for me I was browsing facebook after watching the season finale of Game of Thrones on my computer when I saw the link to the Hangout and joined in just in time! It was a pleasure to see these lovely bloggers that I admire chat amongst themselves and answer questions from ladies that were commenting/tweeting. I cannot wait for the next one!! :)

Now, on to the manicure. During the hangout I was doing what I usually do when watching anything online... painting my nails :) Something cute but simple featuring one of my new favourite polishes...

Cult Nails Nakizzle's Shizzle as the base, stamped with Konad special white and BM-301

Believe it or not, I had the base painted before I even knew what the Hangout what or who was hosting

If you get a chance, "like" Cult Nails on facebook and keep an eye out for when Maria hosts the next hangout.. it's only an hour or so and it's super fun to take part in by commenting/tweeting or just listening in to see your favourite talented bloggers chat about trends in polish.

Around the World Challenge: London

Today has been a very productive day... I started out by visiting my sister at Bed, Bath, and Beyond (where she works - yay for a 20% discount!) and picked up a few things that I will take with me to Halifax when I move in the fall. Then I organized my upstairs closet and set aside a lot of things I will be taking with me... in 2.5 months - I like to get an early start :P    And then I finished off the day by having tacos, watching chick flicks and doing a pedicure with my beautiful little sister.

And of course, being the organizational freak that I am I made a list of things I will need to bring or need to buy for my apartment in the fall. (Mind you I haven't actually found a place to live yet - organized but not necessarily prioritized).

Anyways, I did manage to get this awesome manicure done on Friday... it just slipped my mind to post it today so it's going up ever so slightly late.

It is week 8 of the Around the World Challenge... and we are travelling to London!! :)

This Union Jack grunge nail art was inspired by Debbie over at The Crumpet nail art blog. The look has been pinned to my "nail art" board for ages and this finally gave me the opportunity to try it out myself! :)  (Keep reading to see this manicure with a wax top coat)

I started with a base of Barry M Cyan Blue (I swear I didn't even think about how perfect this was until now, Barry M was created in London!)... And then using a thicker nail art brush I created the messy brush strokes using Finger Paints Paper Mache and then Cult Nails Evil Queen.

I also recently picked up a bottle of Wax That! top coat from Cult Nails and decided to give it a go... and I LOVE IT!!

The wax effect seems hardly noticeable in the photos because my flash gave off the illusion of a shine, but in reality it is very "wax-y". It leaves a perfect wax-like sheen to my nails without "drying" it out like a typical matte top coat would. I haven't seen a product like it... and I adore it!

That's all for now.. but don't forget to head over to Guilty as Charged to see the other London inspired nail art designs!

Cult Nails: Dance All Night Collection

The minute I saw swatches of this collection on Chit Chat Nails blog I knew I just had to have it. And lucky for me my convocation from Memorial was just around the corner... so as a graduation gift to myself I bought the whole darn thing! (and because of the lovely promotion that Cult Nails had during the pre-sale event - I got a free bottle of Wax That top coat to go with it! Which I will feature in another post)

And... I don't think I have ever done a full swatch post before so today is a first!

So... here it is! The Dance All Night collection by Cult Nails... featuring (from left to right):
Nakizzle's Shizzle, Dance All Night, Faded, Walk of Shame, Love at First Sight, & Center of Attention.

Nakizzle's Shizzle: "A super bright, yet soft, blue creme polish" - Cult Nails
Two thin coats
I think this is my favourite of the collection. In some photos it reminded me of BarryM Cyan Blue, but in person it looked more like BarryM Blueberry Icecream. Once it was on my nails though, it was much brighter and absolutely gorgeous!

Dance All Night: "A gorgeous mixture of green and turquoise glitter with duochrome yellow-orange micro-glitter suspended in a clear base" - Cult Nails
One coat of glitter on the accent nail
This is a stunning glitter that would work very well for glitter tips or even over a black base.

Faded: "A blue toned, ever-so-soft, grey creme polish" - Cult Nails
Two thin coats
I have been looking for a pale grey creme polish for ages! And this one is just perfect! :) I was also pleasantly surprised to see that it matched my skin-tone quite nicely. I think this would be lovely for a skittlette manicure.

Walk of Shame: "A clear base with medium sized, blingtastic gold glitter sprinkled with holographic microglitter" - Cult Nails
Two thick coats of glitter on the accent nail
Blingtastic is an understatement. This gold glitter is phenomenal!! This picture does not do it justice. You can wear just one thin coat of any polish, or layer it for crazy dimension and shine! I will definitely be trying this polish over a metallic silver or gold polish someday.

Love at First Sight: "A stunning bright purple cream polish" - Cult Nails
One coat - could have probably used another
Creme polishes tend to be my favourite all year around, and this one takes a close second to Nakizzle's Shizzle in my stash. These two paired together are gorgeous bright and fun colors for this summer. I have a few manicures in mind for this beauty.

Center of Attention: "A rose pink glitter mixed in with duochrome yellow-orange micro-glitter" - Cult Nails
Two thin coats of glitter on the accent nail
I cannot wait to see this paired with a really hot pink this summer. Maybe even on my toes :)

There are a lot of ideas floating around in my head for this collection, so this won't be the last you see of these gorgeous shades. Stay tuned! :)

Around the World Challenge: Paris

Ever since I was a little girl I have wanted to travel to paris and see the Eiffel tower lit up at night...

So it was a given that I would use the eiffel tower as inspiration for today's destination in the Around the World Challenge: Paris!

I started with a base of Barielle Alli's Lace Cover Up on all nails. Then using a Jordana striper polish in white I created the stripes on all nails except for the accent. The Eiffel tower was painted using Finger Paints Black Expressionism and a nail art brush.

As you can see I started off with a shiny top coat (as seen above) but then decided to mattify it with Essie Matte About You. (to much of my frustration, I'm still getting the occasional white flecks from the matte top coat - I will be trying some new ones in the near future).

Hopefully one of these days I will get to travel there and see it for myself... and I hear love-lock bridge is pretty cute ;)

Don't forget to check out the other entries in the challenge over at Guilty As Charged... I'm sure there will be an eiffel tower or two :P

Pinterest Week: Funky Animal Print

For the final day of Pinterest week I combined one of my favourite polishes with one of my favourite designs... animal print!

Unfortunately some pins on Pinterest do not have a source and this pin happens to be one of them. So if any of you know the original creator of this design please share below! :)

The original manicure was created using a blue polish, but I wanted to mix it up a little. The animal print was all freehand using a nail art brush. The polishes I used were Finger Paints Paper Mache & Black Expressionism, and China Glaze Flip Flop Fantasy (which is much brighter than seen in photos)

The original manicure also didn't have the spots filled in on the index nail, but I felt that it looked unfinished so I filled mine in.

And that concludes Pinterest week!! I hope you all enjoyed it... it was very hard to choose just 7 designs to recreate out of the many many pins I have on my inspiration board... but maybe I will do this again another time.
