Around the World Challenge: Tokyo

Wow... this week completely got away from me. It has been pure chaos in my life lately... I'm finishing up my last week of work and then heading to Germany on Saturday with my best friend! :D And as soon as I return I will be hitting the road for Halifax (where I will be living and attending school for the next two years). So this week has been filled with packing, scheduling posts, and trying to find and update all of my immunization records (the least fun of all).

But don't fear, I have several posts lined up for the next month, ready to keep all of my lovely readers entertained :)

Today I have the second last travel destination of the Around the World Challenge: Tokyo!! :)

It was VERY difficult to settle on a theme for this week's manicure. At first I thought of Japanese script or symbols, but I knew I wouldn't be able to paint them correctly and it just seems like something that should be done perfectly or not at all. Then I thought of the beautiful city of Toyko at night.. but how do you portray that on nails?! And finally I settled on some Japanese pop culture... more specifically Hello Kitty! :)

Hello Kitty (ハローキティ Harō Kiti) (full name Kitty White (キティ・ホワイト Kiti howaito)) is a fictional character produced by the Japanese company Sanrio, first designed by Yuko Shimizu... The character is a staple of the kawaii segment of Japanese popular culture. At age 36 as of 2010, Sanrio has groomed Hello Kitty into a global marketing phenomenon worth $5 billion a year. - Wikipedia

I started with a white tip on each nail using paper reinforcers and Finger Paints Paper Mache. Then I added the stripe of pink with a nail art brush using Sally Hansen Insta-Dri Presto Pink. The details on hello kitty were done with a dotting tool/nail art brush and Finger Paints Black Expressionism, Sally Hansen Insta-Dri Lightening, and Presto Pink.

Stay tuned... I have a few more posts for you this week before I take off on my German adventure!! :)

And don't forget to head over to Guilty as Charged to check out the other entries! :)

Around the World Challenge: Beijing

Week 13, can you believe it?! Only 2 more weeks left until the end.. and until my lovely vacation can begin :)

Today the Around the World Challenge takes us to Beijing.. A beautiful city I would love to visit someday. And the first thing that came to mind was the Cherry Blossoms!! It's also a manicure I've been dying to try for ages!!

I started with a base of Etude Turquoise and then painted the branches with Finger Paints Black Expressionism. The blossoms were done using a dotting tool and Etude Pale Purple and Cult Nails Love at First Sight.

Nicole by OPI Canada Nail Night hosted by Kayla Shevonne

For those of you who follow my instagram account you may have noticed that I was at the first ever #NicoleNight last night with a few other Newfie beauty bloggers, Kayla Shevonne and Rebecca from Rebecca Likes Nails, and a few of Kayla's close friends!  :)

Nicole by OPI Canada got in touch with Kayla Shevonne and sponsored the event at her place... Pizza, Polish and Poker, it was a blast!!

Nicole by OPI Canada provided a ton of products for the grand prize for the poker winner!!

Kayla had her place all decked out for the evening...

Kayla's friend Michelle made this awesome cake for the event!!

Kayla had her awesome nail den all decked out with Nicole by OPI nail polish and OPI manicure products... (also provided by Nicole by OPI Canada)

We started the evening off by diving into all the polish!! :)

Rebecca painted Melissa's nails (another friend of Kayla's)...

Rebecca did an awesome gradient with polishes from the Gumdrops collection... Blue-berry Sweet on You, I Lilac Gumdrops, Candy is Dandy...

Melissa's nails featured I do de-Claire! (from the modern family collection) topped off with Inner Sparkle (from the Selina Gomez collection)...

Kayla started by painting her nails with Candid Cameron topped off with a thin coat of Heavenly Angel (as seen below)... leave it to Kayla to change her nails before the night was through... You can check out her other manicure on her page - it's worth checking out just to see the unconventional polish bottle she uses in the photo ;P

And I painted my own nails with Back in my Gloria Days and I Lilac Gumdrops on the accent nail.

Once we were all well-manicured, we proceeded to the pizza and poker game!! Mind you I have never ever played poker before so I had to be shown exactly how to play... but I caught on quick and it was really fun!! :)

It was a tight game with many ups and downs but in the end, Rebecca took the grand prize with "pocket kings" (I'm so proud of my poker jargon) :P

Kayla and Rebecca were both very generous and passed along a few products to little ol' me :)

I can't wait to try out that mask!! And I may just invest in the scrub and hand creme with the same scent, which is awesome by the way.

It really is too bad that I'm moving away in the next month... it would be so awesome to get together with the girls another time. Maybe during christmas break..

Thanks again to Kayla for hosting, it was a blast!! :)

Mint Mani For Talia Joy

Today's post is an extra special one. As some of you may already know, the beauty community lost a beautiful, remarkably talented make-up artist on Tuesday morning... Talia Joy Castellano.

Talia Joy was a young girl of only 13, and sadly, her life was cut short by two malicious forms of cancer, neuroblastoma and preleukemia. This honorary Cover Girl touched the hearts of millions with her amazing talent and bright character. Talia's Youtube make up tutorials and vlogs about her battle with cancer have been an inspiration to us all, not just the beauty/blogging community. You may have also seen her appearance on Ellen DeGeneres where she was given her honorary Cover Girl status.

Many nail art bloggers, beauty bloggers, and followers/friends of Talia's have come together today, Friday, July 19th, to honour this beautiful, inspiring young girl. The last Instagram photo she posted featured a mint green manicure that her and her mother shared... and today we offer our #MintManisForTaliaJoy

I started with a base of China Glaze Re-Fresh Mint, then created a gradient using Re-Fresh Mint and Etude Turquoise. I stamped the hearts using MASH-48.

If you haven't already, please join us in remembering the beautiful life of Talia Joy and help her legacy live on. Leave your #MintManisForTaliaJoy in the inlinks tool below or upload to twitter, instagram, facebook, tumblr etc. with the hashtag above and #TaliasLegacy.

My heart goes out to Talia's family and friends... it wasn't hard to tell that Talia loved each and every one of her subscribers on her Youtube channel, and I think I speak for everyone when I say we loved her too!!

Around the World Challenge: Moscow

Week 12 of the Around the World Challenge brings us to Moscow. Beautiful city full of absolutely stunning architecture... so I used the Saint Basil's Cathedral as inspiration.

My manicure doesn't quite do this cathedral justice... isn't it stunning??

I started with a base of OPI My Vampire is Buff and then created the clouds using Barry M Blueberry Icecream and Finger Paints Paper Mache. The cathedral was painted using a nail art brush and various other polishes. (too many to list)

Don't forget to head over to Guilty as Charged and check out the other challenge entries :)

Cult Nails Tulum

This one is from last week sometime. I was looking for something neutral and simple but not too boring.

Cult Nails Tulum is a stunning brown/taup shade with some hidden gold specks of glitter thrown in. Blaze was a perfect complimentary color for the accent nails... I found that it brought out the gold specks in Tulum.

Have I mentioned how much I adore Cult Nails? My collection is growing so much now that I can reach for a Cultie shade no matter which mood I'm in, there's something for every occasion. I'm saving up now for the newest collection, "Road Trip, Anyone?" Although it might be a while before I can get my hands on it :(

Short and sweet post today (not unlike my nails), I've been house sitting for my cousin so finding the time to paint my nails has been tricky. That, and I've been putting some posts away for the few weeks in August that I will be on vacation and then packing to move to Halifax. Stay tuned for week 12 of the Around the World Challenge coming up on Saturday :)

Around the World Challenge: Athens

Only four weeks to go for the Around the World Challenge and it's also my countdown to vacation!! :)

Today's challenge location (or rather Saturday's - I'm a tad late) was Athens! And what better manicure than a goddess??

I thought about choosing a specific greek god (i.e. Athena), but eventually settled on a generalized goddess manicure, inspired by the very talented Robin Moses (on youtube)

I started with a base coat of OPI Lincoln Park After Dark and then added some loose Sally Girl glitter in gold and silver. Next I added some splotches for the sky in Rimmel Lasting Finish Pro Gun Metal. The goddess, her hair, and stars were painted on freehand using China Glaze Icicle and then layered over with Finger Paints Paper Mache.

I like how this one turned out, but I think I would make the sky more purple if I were to do it again.

Don't forget to head over to Guilty as Charged and check out the other challenge entries! :)
