Fall Manicure for Nail It Magazine

It's been a while since I did any freehand work... it felt good to sit down for a few hours and put this one together :)

When Nail It Magazine asked me to submit a fall nail art design for their online fall feature, I happily accepted. For this submission I wanted to put together something special so I went to work on a freehand design...

I started with a base of OPI Don't Pretzel My Buttons. Then I sponged on a few fall shades using a makeup sponge, Sally Hansen Xtreme Wear Sun Kissed, Revlon Brilliant Strength Inflame, and Barielle Rusted Vintage Boots in that order from mid-nail to tip. I finished it off with some freehand tree designs using a small nail art brush and Essie Little Brown Dress.

I liked the design so much I decided to do it on both hands. Of course the design took a little longer using my left hand but I think it worked out pretty well... so I decided to feature my rarely seen, and photo shy right hand...

Don't forget my giveaway is still open until Friday so get your entries in! :)

Autumn hues

Summer is officially over... but the weather here is still beautiful. I've been told that fall here is quite nice so I'm looking forward to it.

Today I have a simple manicure inspired by fall colors...

I started with a base of Barielle Rusted Vintage Boots on each nail other than the accent.
The accent nail is Barielle One Shade of Gray. I added a bow from Born Pretty Store as a little something extra :)

Not Your Average French

School is kicking my behind! Haha. It's only the third week of classes and I'm flat out with class, labs, and studying... but painting my nails is an excellent option for down time if you ask me :)

Today I have a different take on the classic french mani...

Fot this look I used a few of my new polishes that I picked up from the Halifax bloggers meet-up...

I started with a french gradient using Sally Hansen Salon Manicure Royal Blush and Finger Paints Paper Mache. Then I added a little pink glitter to the white tips using a sponge and Sally Hansen Diamond Strength Pink Promise. When that didn't seem like enough I added the extra detail using Bonita Chrome My Nail (and Christabell was right, it is a staple in any nail artist's stash).

I love going back to the basics. Some nail artists tend to stay far away from any french manicure, but it is one of my favourite classic manicures... and you can always spruce it up ;)

Halifax Nail Eat and Greet

Last Friday I had the lovely pleasure of meeting a few local bloggers/instagram-ers that share my love of nail polish and nail art.

It was a great opportunity to get familiar with the Halifax nail art scene right away since I only just moved here a few weeks ago.

We spent the evening at a local restaurant eating, having a few drinks, and chatting about our love of polish. It was an awesome time! And of course we did a small nail polish swap! Keep reading for more details and photos!

From left to right:
Alicia @thebasecoat, Myself, Wis @wisbri, Julie @juwie_, and Christabell @christabellnails

Our manicures for the evening...

Clockwise from the left we have Wis, Julie, Christabell, Alicia, and myself (I went with a plain solid red, my polish stash was still in shambles at the time and my nails are in recovery mode from moving).

We swapped polish randomly and I got to take home a Liquid Sands polish from OPI, Alcatraz... Rocks

Christabell was the one who organized the whole get-together, and brought along a little something for each of us.. Bonita Chrome my Nail, which according to her is a must-have staple in any polish stash... I'm curious to try it out :)

And Julie brought along a few gems that she was giving away.. I grabbed two out of the pile, Joe Fresh Bumbleberry and Sally Hansen Diamond Strength Pink Promise

All in all it was a lovely evening and I hope we can all get together again in the future, we tossed around the idea of a small christmas get together and secret santa :)

Norigeh Handmade Jewelry

Recently I had the unique opportunity to try out a piece of jewelry and create a design to compliment and help promote it :)

Norigeh is an online shop for handmade jewelry designed and created by Sienna Han. She makes a lot of unique items that would compliment a wide range of styles and sells them at affordable prices.

The piece that I was asked to create a design for was this adorable snake nail ring...

I used Sally Hansen Xtreme Wear Gun Metal as the base, and stamped with BM-215 and konad special silver polish.

This cute snake ring comes in both silver and gold! :)

Head over to Norigeh online if you'd like to check out some of the unique pieces for yourself or for a gift for someone special.

Review: Incoco Nail Polish Appliques

Nail polish strips have been on my radar for some time now... I have seen them on many blogs and I was curious about how they work, how long they last, and what they look like in real life.

So when I was asked to review the Incoco 100% Nail Polish Appliques, I happily accepted.

In my review package I received a small booklet highlighting some of the 200+ designs and colors that Incoco has to offer. They also included a small orange stick and nail file to help with application and a nail polish removal cloth.

And they included two different designs to try out... Park Guell (right) and First Crush (left)

I started with Park Guell...

Application was VERY easy. They come in a pack of 16 appliques with a few different size options depending on the width of your nails. A small diagram explains exactly how to apply them and it's really quite simple to follow.

They also last much longer than regular nail polish. (which makes the $8.99 per pack worth while)

After 5 days the appliques were still just as in-tact as the day I applied them. It was very handy while moving into my new apartment, I didn't have to worry about doing a manicure every couple of days. These would be an excellent idea while travelling.

The appliques are just as easy to remove as they are to apply. Because they are 100% real nail polish they remove with any nail polish remover. I used the cloth that was included in the review package to remove the first set before applying the second. It all removed with the one cloth without a problem.

I left the second set on for 7 days with minimal wear.

Incoco has hundreds of designs to choose from, including some really cute holiday themed designs... You can check out their website below or follow them on various social media..

Orientation Abstract

Eek!! I can't believe this is it, I'm about to start my Masters degree! Today is the first day of orientation for my program and I'm so excited/nervous :)

It is also labour day here in Canada, and for many people it is the last camping weekend of the season, so any of you out there with the day off of work I hope you are enjoying it.

Today I want to share with you another manicure from the vault, an abstract creation inspired by both Marta over at Chit Chat Nails and @nailsbymimi (on instagram)

I'm not 100% sure on all of the polishes I used in this manicure (especially on the glitter ring finger) but the pink is Butter London Trout Pout and the pale mint green is China Glaze Re-Fresh Mint.  I'm fairly certain that the darker turqoise green on the abstract nails is Etude polish.

And that's all for my manicures from the vault... I'm hoping to be back to regular posting in the next day or so with some fresh new ideas and a couple of product reviews that have taken a back-burner while moving... so stay tuned! :)
